LWW-8: How Did We Launch Our First Books?

In this episode, TB & Clare talk about writing their latest books and how the process never gets any easier. TB is waiting for the book to click but is plowing on; meanwhile, Clare has trashed her first 10,000 words and is starting again. It’s all part of the process!

They also chat about their ailments (shoulder, hip) and recommend cod liver oil for its lubricating qualities—almost with a straight face. Clare’s been obsessed with the reality show Married At First Sight and wants to write a lesbian romance version.

They both share how they launched their first book, how nerve-racking pressing the publish button is, and how it’s incredible when people you don’t know start to buy your books. A life-changing moment. Neither really knew what they were doing, but their first effort was encouraging enough to try it again, and the rest is herstory.

Stop back next week when we’ll be discussing how we’d launch our first book now, with over a decade of publishing experience behind us.  If you’d like to leave a comment on the episode, head on over to www.lesbianswhowrite.com. We’d love to hear from you!

Asus here, too (desktop computer, though)! Had it for several years now, it’s lasted way longer than I expected. Planning to get an Asus laptop next.

God, that show.. over here it’s called “First date at the altar”. The whole premise is a bloody car crash! And WE’RE the ones who are ruining the so-called sanctity of marriage? No, haven’t watched a single episode. Life’s too short for heterosexist crap.

I really liked my old Asus and I’m pretty sure that’s what I’ll get this time around. Thanks for easing my mind some. Now, I just need to pull the trigger and order one. I’ll hem and haw for a bit, knowing me.

I might have to watch an episode of the show just to see how crazy it is. Although, Clare can keep me updated, saving me the time and perhaps my sanity.

      Thanks so much for listening!

Episode 8 was certainly chock full ladies, wonderfully insightful on those first launch books. Strictly a reader but how helpful you guys are to newbies, well done. I appreciate everything you guys do to keep your listening and reading audience so entertained. As a voracious reader gobbling up 2-3 books a week I really appreciate being able to use my Kindle unlimited option so a huge thanks for that. I had no idea how that worked on your end of it.
And I think Clare needs to find a Gordon update, and keep that “married at first sight” lesbian style alive.
Great game in City wonderful time to be a Spurs fan

Aw, thanks so much for the kind words. And, I’m impressed by how much you read. Well done you! I agree, Clare needs to track down Gordon. As a Liverpool fan, I’m cheering the Spurs on this weekend. Thanks so much for listening! TB

Hello TB and Clare, I’m not an author but I enjoy reading your books very much. For two introverts, I find your podcasts honest, funny and so informative. What an excellent way to help the next generation of authors out there. You two appear to be so different, by that’s what really works in your podcasts. I think it helps that you are friends and have a healthy respect for one another.

What’s the difference between an ARC Team and a Street Team?

    Keep up the great work!

A big fan and one of TB’s ARC readers,

Hi Kathy! Thanks so much for the kind words and for being an awesome ARC reader. As for your question, an ARC Team helps an author by posting reviews and a Street Team helps get the word out, such as on social media, about a new release. The two can blur a bit, so I’m really glad you asked, because I think this can be a topic Clare and I can delve into a bit more on the podcast. Thanks so much for listening! TB

Oh my goodness! I’m learning so much listening to how you launched your first book and all the things that happened; sitting on it before you ‘pressed the button’ that would launch your baby into the world. Your podcast is worth listening to. Thank you.
How about doing a session on how to select an editor?

Thanks so much for your encouraging comment! It helps to know people think the podcast is worth listening to. Also, I’m adding your question about finding an editor to our list of questions to discuss on a future episode. Thanks so much for the suggestion! TB
