LWW 72: New Daily Routines

TB hates summer, while Clare loves wearing less clothes.

TB got her London novella to the editor with hours to spare, but within an hour of emailing, she thought of at least three ways she wanted to change it. Also, TB is making progress on season 3 of Girl Love Happens, which takes place in the early 90s when the world wasn’t so scary and depressing.

Clare had to write every day to hit a lofty word goal, and now she only has five chapters and an epilogue left. In very happy news, she was able to celebrate her mum’s birthday with a family BBQ and crazy golf (which TB is fairly certain is miniature golf in the US). Also, Clare went for curry and got a haircut. It’s the little things during 2020 that makes them happy.

They move on to their daily routines.

TB is turning into a morning person because she hates alarm clocks and is waking naturally with the sun. Her biggest change since the last time they discussed their routines is managing her health and low energy levels since recovering from her illness. She has at least two blocks of time when she’s working on writing projects. After those blocks, it depends on what her body and mind can handle.

Clare’s routine is much different from the one she outlined in episode 18. She would suggest her old routine over her current one. Her daily exercise is dependent on the weather. Spoiler: Clare the Londoner hates rain. And, she’s learned her most productive time takes place in the afternoon. TB is super impressed by Clare’s writing sprint ability.

It’s important to realize a person has daily limits on how productive they can be (both recommend Deep Work by Cal Newport), and routines will constantly change, so be ready to adjust and pivot. Most importantly, listen to your brain and body.

What’s your daily routine, and has it changed during these weird times?

Next week, the pair will break down how to research keywords.

Happy listening!

    Hi TB,

I have never heard of the Christmas song Clare mentioned and I know a lot of songs!!! Both of you keep up the great work with this podcast. I really look forward to it each week.

    Stay safe and well,

    Kathy A. 😘

Before the stay at home orders: My daily routine was full of TV. Anytime I was home, the TV was on. It was noise. It was always on! Then the virus…. I turned off the TV and decided to read. In January I set a reading goal of 12, figuring on one a month. Here we are half way through the year and I have met and passed my goal. To date I have read 106 books. I owe this to discovering the lesbian romance books. At age 58, I finally found wonderful author’s writing books I can’t put down and love. Thank you.♥️📚

Thanks Kathy – if you don’t know it, do look it up, it’s fab!

    Hello!
My wife and I have now started to listen regularly, and really enjoy the podcasts. There are always good suggestions to do with writing, of course, but hearing the descriptions of how you compare and contrast your own pursuits, respectively, is great fun. With all that is going on these days, that is a nice distraction. Part of our enjoyment is watching how certain disclosures ring true for each of our corresponding practices as well, despite denial or protest. For example, I subscribe to the tiny paper method of idea gathering while my wife has excel docs of chapter outlines, character info, and more; making beds: I will neither confirm nor deny that there is an unspoken expectation of timely completion of that task; unwashed celebrities and cottage cheese: not so much for either of us… 🙂 Thanks again, and stay safe.

    • Clare says:

Glad we’re providing commentary to your daily lives, Jan.

Not sure I’m down with Ethan Hawke anymore either. Definitely not cottage cheese!

      Clare x
