LWW 31: How Did You Discover Lesbian Romance?

Clare is on holiday in Milan, and TB is insanely jealous.

Although the duo only spoke a few days ago, TB has been super busy. She needs a drumroll… Reservations of the Heart is now live on Amazon. Woot! Without announcing the release, the book is surprising TB by climbing the lesbian romance charts. She gives a heartfelt shout-out to her ARC team.

Clare has had a special birthday weekend, which wasn’t planned, making it even better. She sent off Made in London to be proofed. TB can’t wait to read it. On Clare’s birthday, it was a sunny day in London, so she sat in her garden and read a book. Imagine that, an author reading a book! She recommends it for everyone.

Now for the main topic: Lesbian Romance. TB and Clare share the first ones they read and how being lesfic authors changed their lesbian romance reading habits. They’re both of an age that when they were in their twenties, it was much harder to find lesbians in stories. With ereaders and indie publishing, there’s now a lesbian romance bonanza. It’s a great time to be a lesbian fiction reader.

Ok, from Episode 30 that had me laughing loudly? Thunder cunt. From Episode 29? My ambition battles with me living with depression. So, to put any thing on paper is a plus. Listening to your podcast continues encouraging me to put pen to paper. From Episode 31? I don’t use social media at all and after creating a blog site I balked and it’s now in the ether on a long leash.

      Hi Donna!

Clare had me laughing when she proposed that title as well. Such a funny thing to stumble upon in a loo.

And it’s fantastic to hear we’re encouraging you to write. That really warms my heart.

Wishing you the best of luck!

Oh I forgot to let you know how I found lesbian romance. I went to my local library (a long time ago in my youth far far away) and found anything available. I started with Well of Loneliness and then found Katherine Forrest which led me to Radclyffe, Georgia Beers, Gerri Hill, & Kim Baldwin. Niamh Murphy led me to amazon’s Lesbian top 100 and I found a plethora of lesbian romance; including finding you and Clare’s bodies of work. I’m not into e-letters that are all about buy my book(s) but more so about the writing processes of each writer I meet.

      Hi Donna!

Thanks so much for sharing how you discovered lesfic. And, I need to thank Niamh Murphy for directing you to the top 100 on Amazon. Like Clare said, it’s a great time to be a lesbian fiction reader.

      Thanks so much for listening!

Well, I just lost a whole afternoon after starting out planning to listen to one podcast & have just wrapped up. It’s after 5pm & I need to move. Thanks for all of the effort you two put in – appreciated.

Also have been meaning to drop Clare a line about a funny experience in Whitstable a few years ago now – one day I will.

      Hi Jude!

Is it wrong that I’m not sorry that you lost an afternoon listening to our podcast? That is one of the best compliments we can get.

And I so want to hear the Whitstable story. Nice cliffhanger there!

      Thanks so much for commenting!

Is anything ever “wrong” TB? Nah… I lost another couple of hours today, there’s a lot to catch up on & Oh dear, now I have the list of podcasts you both recommended… Summer might disappear while I just listen & escape any coming heat.

As for Whitstable, it’s ages since Clare mentioned that small township in a post – I need to revisit & do some deep remembering about cognac, poker & hash… I’m older now, recollection is a bit hazy.

Thanks again for your podcasts et al.
