TB & Clare kick off this episode by chatting about their latest village romance books: TB is on the final lap, while Clare has just completed draft one. Round of applause for both! TB and Clare have also been on writing retreats where they penned all the words (both), ate all the ice cream (TB), and drank all the wine (Clare). Clare also reveals she’s opened up a shop on her website so you can buy directly from her: find it here – https://payhip.com/custardbooks
TB has organized a massive lesfic sale on I Heart Lesfic, which runs May 27th through May 31st. Over 200 books are involved. More details can be found here: https://iheartlesfic.com/
Then it’s down to the topic of the day: audiobooks and should you be doing them? The short answer is yes. But the dynamic duo back up that single word with a whole bunch of stats that show how audiobooks are the future. Although being a historian, TB mistrusts the future. She’s going to work on that.
They both share their experiences of finding narrators and creating audiobooks, how to distribute them, what they cost, and whether or not they make you any money as an author. Both agree it’s early days in the audiobook space, but the options for authors are opening up at a quick pace. The bottom line is, if you’re serious about this as a career, you can’t afford to ignore audio.

Oh man, this is a cool episode! All the brand new (for me) facts and trivia about audiobooks nearly blew me away. Super interesting; definitely have to listen to this one again!
And yes, a good narrator can add a whole new dimension to the story. Haven’t actually listened to very many audioboks yet (maybe a dozen or so) but I already have a couple of favourite narrators (e.g. Jessica Jeffries).
Hi Miira! I haven’t listened to a book by Jessica Jeffries. I’ll have to give one of hers a go. Super thrilled you enjoyed the audiobook facts. I’m kinda a fact collector and tend to write them down and then promptly lose them. Luckily, I held onto these. Thanks so much for listening. TB
This was such a cool episode and very interesting!
Thanks so much for all the valuable details. I found them very useful not only as a reader but as a blogger.
And once again, just thanks for the giggles. Listening to you both always brightens up my day 🙂
Hi Carol! I’m thrilled to hear the information is useful to readers and bloggers. We really appreciate lesfic bloggers for everything you guys do. Thanks so much for listening and glad we have you giggling. TB
Well ladies. A wonderful episode with an enormous amount of information. So, this is a keeper, especially with the notes that identify links to other information. Thank you. I enjoy reading on my kindle and turning the occasional page of a book. I’ll have to warm up to audio books because I’m still picking and choosing the podcasts I listen to. There’s just so much out in the ether and it’s overwhelming. Anyway, thanks for this.
Hi Donna! So glad you found this episode useful. I was really taken with the stats I found. I agree. There is so much out there and it can be overwhelming. We truly appreciate you listening to our podcast and for taking the time to comment. TB
Hello ladies, I binged listened to your episodes over the Memorial Day weekend and just finished up Episode 14. I realized at about episode 4 I needed a note book for all my comments. Rather than try that, I am going to give the most reaction worthy ones.
The first was about TB’s hurt hand and then the follow up comment from Clare also being a lesbian. I was shopping while listening then and I totally cackled out loud and got quite a few interesting looks. Needless to say, I was a bit embarrassed but still totally worth it.
The other was in episode 13 when Clare was finishing asking about the ice cream and said, “chocolate chip, mint cookie dough”. I immediately scrunched up my face and said “EEEWWWW!!!!!” I happened to be picking up food at that point and they were looking at me like I was crazy as I had not checked out the food they gave me yet. I had to apologize and explain I was listening to an awesome podcast.
I am not an author at all, but I still find the podcast interesting and I just love the comradery between the two of you. The banter and feeding off of each other is just wonderful. Thanks for the podcast and I look forward to many more. Keep it up, ladies!
Hi Nik! Another binge listener. Woot! Is it wrong that I’m not too sorry for us making you laugh out loud, even if you did get odd looks and had to explain? I’m a huge believer in laughter making life better.
We’re thrilled readers are enjoying hearing how the sausage is made, so to speak. I love the ins and outs of the book business.
Thanks so much for listening and let us know if you’d like us to discuss any part of writing or publishing that you’re curious about. TB
